    What's the protocol? Incidentally, you might want to look at ppdev
    (<URL:http://people.redhat.com/twaugh/parport/html/>) and/or
    libieee1284 (<URL:http://people.redhat.com/twaugh/libieee1284/>). It
    would be quite neat if your program didn't need to run as root but
    simply used /dev/parport0..
